Kartik Aaryan starrer Chandu Champion backed by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by Kabir Khan, is all set to release in the next two days ( 14th June) and the things have begun to get heated up. The film is a biopic on India’s first paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar for swimming, and has also been awarded the Padma Shri award in 2018. The movie has managed to sell about 9004 tickets across 2822 shows in the country.Till yesterday, the film had sold about 6782 tickets thus seeing a jump of 2222 tickets. The total collection of the film currently stands at Rs 26.99 lakh as per Sacnilk. With block bookings, the film has earned about Rs 70 lakh.
To play the role, Kartik has undergone major body transformation wherein he dropped his body fat percentage from 39 % to 7 % and reduced his weight from 90 kgs to 72 kgs. He also underwent rigorous training in boxing and swimming for the role. Both his trainers Tridev Pandey and Virdhawal Khade heaped praises on the star for his dedication and commitment.
In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actor opened about his process of getting into the role of Mulikant Petkar and how taxing it was. He said, “ Building this body took a lot of patience and it took really long. I had never imagined a film like this, genre like this and this is something I’ve never attempted. For me, I was trying to give my 200 percent – be it the psyche or physique in every way possible. We did a lot of workshops, reading sessions. We did a lot of workshops with a dialect expert to get the Marathi lingo and made sure not to overdo it. There’s always a thin line between making it sound correct and overdoing it. All said and done, I’m really proud of this film.”
