As the release date of Kartik Aaryan‘ upcoming film Chandu Champion comes closer, the buzz for it is reaching higher notches. The film is a biopic on India’s first paralympic gold medalist Murilkant Petkar for swimming, and he has also been awarded the Padma Shri award in 2018. To play the role, Kartik has undergone a major body transformation wherein he dropped his body fat percentage from 39 % to 7 % and reduced his weight from 90 kgs to 72 kgs.
Chandu Champion is slated to release on 14th June with the advance booking opening on 9th June. In just 2 days, the film has sold 6782 tickets amassing a total of Rs 20 lakh from 2522 shows, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. With block bookings, the film has earned about Rs 58 lakhs. Going by the buzz, the numbers are expected to jump many folds as the release day comes near.
In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actor opened about his process of getting into the role of Mulikant Petkar and how taxing it was. He said, “ Building this body was a work of a lot of patience and it took really long. I had never imagined a film like this, genre like this, and this is something I’ve never attempted. For me, I was trying to give my 200 percent – be it the psyche or physique in every way possible. We did a lot of workshops, reading sessions. We did a lot of workshops with a dialect expert to get the Marathi lingo and to not overdo it. There’s always a thin line between making it sound correct and overdoing it All said and done, I’m really proud of this film.”
Post Chandu Champion, Kartik will be seen in his Rooh Baba avatar in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 which will see the return of Vidya Balan to the franchise. It also sees the addition of Triptii Dimri and Madhuri Dixit to the mix.
