Farah Khan opens up about family's financial struggles after her father lost all his money: 'We were the poor cousins' | Hindi Movie News Filmymeet

Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently opened up about the financial hardships her family faced after her father, stuntman-turned-producer Kamran Khan, went bankrupt.
In a recent interview, Farah shared that her father’s financial downfall significantly impacted her and her brother, filmmaker Sajid Khan, leading them to be perceived as the ‘poor cousins‘ in their extended family.
Kamran Khan’s career took a downturn after his film flopped, resulting in a loss of all their money. This unfortunate turn of events led him to alcoholism, and he passed away when Farah was just 18. Despite being part of a well-known film family, her mother Menaka Irani being the sister of former child actors Daisy and Honey Irani, and related to filmmakers Farhan and Zoya Akhtar through their mother, their immediate family’s financial situation was tough.
In an interview with Radio Nasha, Farah described how this economic shift affected her perspective on her family’s status within the industry. She and Sajid felt like charity cases, often relying on the goodwill of their more successful relatives. Despite these challenges, Farah fondly recalled that their extended family was supportive, providing them with a place to stay during their toughest times.
One of the few bright spots during this difficult period was the rare opportunity to watch early test screenings of unreleased films. Farah recounted seeing a rough cut of the iconic film ‘Zanjeer’ without its background score, and later, she cherished memories of cramming into a car with relatives to watch the blockbuster ‘Sholay.’ “After that, we started getting tickets to go and see the movies. I remember 10 of us squeezing into one car to go and watch Sholay,” she said.
