Farah Khan reveals she earned more than Shah Rukh Khan on Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa : ‘He was paid Rs 25,000; I was paid per song’ | Hindi Movie News Filmymeet

Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are two of Bollywood’s biggest names, known for their individual talents and successful collaborations. Farah, a top choreographer turned filmmaker, has created iconic dance sequences, while Shah Rukh, known as “King Khan,” is a superstar actor admired for his charisma and versatility. Their professional bond began in the 90s, with Farah’s choreography enhancing Shah Rukh’s performances.Farah’s directorial debut, “Main Hoon Na” (2004), starring Shah Rukh, was a major success and marked a turning point in their careers. They continued to collaborate on hits like “Om Shanti Om” and “Happy New Year,” cementing their status as a formidable duo in Bollywood.
Once, Farah Khan reflected on her first meeting with Shah Rukh Khan and knew instantly that they would get along. Despite working on low-budget films like “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa,” where Shah Rukh often helped Farah as her ‘assistant,’ their friendship and professional partnership flourished. In an interview, Farah mentioned that she actually earned more than Shah Rukh on that ‘poor’ production.
In an interview with Radio Nasha, when asked about her long friendship with Shah Rukh, Farah shared her thoughts.“We started the shoot in 1991, and I was also new. We were in Goa, and I’d only read an interview of Shah Rukh in which he sounded very brash and arrogant. I was very scared. I remember what he was wearing and doing when we first met; Kundan Shah introduced us. Sometimes, you instantly hit it off with somebody. You feel like you’re friends from school. That’s what it was like with Shah Rukh. We had the same interests, we’d read the same books, we had the same sense of humour.”
Farah mentioned that Shah Rukh helped her a lot during the ‘gareeb shoot’ and kept going.“The budget was very low. Shah Rukh was paid Rs 25,000 for that movie. I was the highest paid person on that movie, let me tell you. I was paid Rs 5,000 per song, and there were six songs. Just because of that, I was paid Rs 30,000. We couldn’t even afford an assistant. So, that full song ‘Aana Mere Pyar Ko’, we cast regular people from Goa.”
Farah mentioned that because the extras didn’t know how to follow cues or hit their marks, Shah Rukh would pinch them one by one to signal when to rise from behind a wall during the song. Additionally, Farah has directed Shah Rukh in three movies — “Main Hoon Na,” “Om Shanti Om,” and “Happy New Year.” Although they didn’t speak for many years in the late 2000s and early 2010s, they later patched things up and reconciled.
