One Direction fans around the globe bid a tearful farewell to Liam Payne, on Wednesday as he was finally laid to rest in a private funeral.
Payne, who passed away last month at the age of 31, was honoured at a funeral service held in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. His grieving parents were joined by a host of celebrity mourners including the late singer’s bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, who gathered to pay their final respects.
As the funeral proceedings got underway, a tweet from 2010 surfaced online, in which a young Payne had written, “If I die would you come to ma funeral?” The tweet, posted during his early days of fame, left fans heartbroken.
Moved to tears by the post, fans took to the comments section to share photos of his bandmates and say, “They did my Payno, they did, we all wish they wouldn’t have to.”
Another said, “poor liam 🙁 you didnt deserve to feel lonely im so sorry for you, i hope you found peace”
The emotional funeral ceremony saw Payne’s coffin arrive in a white carriage drawn by two white horses, adorned with floral tributes spelling out “Son” and “Daddy.” Payne’s former partner Cheryl, with whom he shared a seven-year-old son, was photographed leaving the service, while his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, media personality James Corden, and music mogul Simon Cowell were also in attendance.
The singer passed away in Buenos Aires, where he was found dead after falling from a hotel balcony. His death sent shockwaves through his global fanbase, with tributes pouring in for the beloved star.
Payne’s post came around the same time he rose to fame with his bandmates on The X Factor in 2010, under the mentorship of Simon Cowell. One Direction went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands in history, capturing the hearts of millions.
