Rajkumar Hirani recently talked about his breakthrough movie ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and made a suggestion that he would be working on a third instalment in the series with Sanjay Dutt shortly.
Speaking to the audience during The Indian Express event, the director said that he is working on five scripts, not just one or two. “I have five half-finished scripts for Munna Bhai. I spent six months on a script, reach the interval, and it just wouldn’t go beyond that. There is a Munna Bhai LLB, Munna Bhai Chal Base, Munna Bhai Chale Amreeka, and more,” said the filmmaker, who discussed the most difficult aspect of writing a Munna Bhai movie. “The most important factor is that the next instalment has to get better than the previous films. But now, I have a unique idea. Of course, over the course of 100 years of cinema, everything has been said. But yeah, I am working on that idea.”
When Hirani revealed the greatest fear that drove him to create the third ‘Munna Bhai’ movie, he left the audience in splits. “I think Sanju might just come home and threaten me to get done with the next. He really wants to do another Munna Bhai film.” Afterwards, he added that he is “seriously” considering helming the next ‘Munna Bhai’ movie.
On the work front, Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, was his last film and was released in 2023. Hirani is currently working on a streaming show which stars Vikrant Massey. The upcoming movie by the director has not yet been revealed.
