Sunidhi Chauhan on singing 'Kaise Paheli' for Rekha in Parineeta: ‘Mai kuch over kar deti achha karne ke chakkar mein'

Sunidhi Chauhan, who is renowned for her incredible vocal range and versatility, is one of the most loved singers in Bollywood. She recently reflected on her singing experience of ‘Kaise Paheli Zindgani’, revealing that at first she was unaware that it would be for Rekha. Reflecting on this, she shared, “Mai kuch over kar deti achha karne ke chakkar mein,” adding, “Rekha Ji made her sound mature.”
During a conversation with Sucharita Tyagi, Sunidhi stated, “I did not know that Kaisi Paheli was going to be shot with Rekha Ji. I did not know—in a way, I’m glad I didn’t know—kyunki agar mujhe pata hota toh shayad mai kuch over kar deti achha karne ke chakkar mein, aur woh bura lagta.”
She went on to say that Raima Sen was present during the recording session, which made her think that ‘Raima’ in Parineeta would be the subject of the song. She was astounded by the iconic actress’s performance and didn’t realize it starred Rekha until she viewed the final edit.
Sunidhi further added, “I mean, she made me sound better; she made me sound mature. I wouldn’t say that I was a younger voice on her—she made me sound that way—and that was superb, unbelievable, and surreal.”
Sunidhi recalled her response at the release of ‘Parineeta’, saying she was astounded by Rekha ji’s performance and the way her facial expressions flawlessly enhanced the song. She thought Rekha’s goddess-like emotes gave her voice more depth and passion.
Pradeep Sarkar’s ‘Parineeta’, which also starred Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Raima Sen, and Dia Mirza, was Vidya Balan’s debut film. Sunidhi shot to fame as a child singer when she won a singing competition on the TV show ‘Meri Awaaz Suno’ at the age of 13. She won a Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for her breakout song, ‘Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi’, from the 1999 movie ‘Mast’.
From peppy dance tracks to soulful ballads, Sunidhi is renowned for her versatility as a singer. Among her many other well-known singles are ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’, ‘Desi Girl’, ‘Kamli’, and ‘Beedi Jalaile’. She has worked with famous music directors throughout the years and produced many hits that have reached the top of the charts, making her a well-known voice in Bollywood.
