Sohum Shah gained recognition for his role in Tumbbad.

Sohum Shah has talked about how he feels that actors who hail from smaller towns and cities struggle in the film industry. The actor also said how he has not learnt networking in Bollywood yet.

Best known for his role in Tumbbad, actor Sohum Shah has shared his thoughts on the ongoing insider vs outsider debate in Bollywood. The actor is currently reeling in the success of the re-release of Tumbbad which is currently breaking records at the box office. In a recent interview, the actor spoke about how people from smaller cities and towns struggle in Bollywood.

In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Sohum Shah talked about how budding actors who hail from Mumbai and other bigger cities are at an advantage when compared to people from smaller cities. He said, “Jo Bombay se hoga wo 3rd lap se shuru karega kyunki usko angrezi bhaasha aati hai uske dost hain, use kabhi bhi emotionally homesickness ya alone feel nahin hoga. Uske dost yahan hai uske maa-baap yahan hai (The one who is from Bombay will start from the 3rd lap because he speaks English, he has friends, he will never feel emotionally homesick or alone. His friends are here, his parents are here).”

The actor also added how budding actors who hail from Mumbai are aware of how PRs and the media work and are better prepared to face the industry. In the same interview, he added how he hasn’t learned how to network in Bollywood yet. He spoke about how he does not like attending Bollywood parties either.

In an earlier interview, the actor spoke about how he was able to dedicate seven years to Tumbbad because he followed the advice that he had learned from Aamir Khan. He said, “I could give seven years to Tumbbad because of that rule, which I kept in mind that Aamir had taught, to stick to it and believe it will take you somewhere. As an actor, even if I would face many insecurities, that my age is passing, I should do some other films. But back of my mind, this rule did stay and helped me, otherwise, I would have created a lot of mess.”

Tumbbad was re-released in cinemas in August this year. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, the movie revolves around a hidden treasure in Tumbbad, Maharashtra. The film earned Rs 28.5 crore at the box office upon its re-release.
