Jaideep Ahlawat, one of Hindi cinema’s finest actors, recently shared his intense body transformation journey for his role in the film ‘Maharaj.’ Portraying a predatory godman, Ahlawat underwent a significant physical change, shedding about 27 kilograms. The transformation was at the insistence of Yash Raj Films’ boss, Aditya Chopra, who believed a chiseled physique would add a new dimension to Ahlawat’s performance.
In a video released by Netflix, Ahlawat discussed his role and the challenges he faced in achieving his new look. He revealed that this was his first assignment after the lockdown, and Chopra’s vision for the character pushed him to embark on this grueling journey. “Aditya Chopra said a beautiful thing, ‘Everyone believes you will nail it. Everyone believes you are a good actor. But I feel if you try something new, then it will be different for the audience. So you will look really nice if you lose weight. We will structure your body that way.’ I was like, ‘Okay sir,’” Ahlawat recounted.
Starting at 109.7 kilograms, Ahlawat reached his target weight of 82 kilograms in five months. The actor shared the emotional and physical toll this transformation took on him. He recalled his first day of training with his trainer, Prajwal, struggling to complete even five pushups. “I stayed on the ground. And I looked at him and I was like, ‘I can do it sir.’ But the conviction in his eyes was so bad. I said, ‘We’ll do it, sir.’” Within a month, Ahlawat had lost nearly nine kilograms, although the process was painful and emotionally draining.
“Within a month, I almost lost eight to nine kilos. But it was very painful. He had videos of me where I am crying. It’s in his phone. He said, ‘I will show them to you some day’. I think this is probably the right time, he will make me viral where a man is crying while exercising,” he shared.
Despite the hardships, Ahlawat’s dedication paid off. He later shared photos showcasing his transformation on social media, expressing gratitude to his trainer. “From 109.7 Kg. to 83 Kg. in 5 months. That’s the Physical Transformation for the Role of Maharaj. Thank you Prajwal Sir for believing in me,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, ‘Maharaj’ is getting mixed reviews.
