Biography of Ram Nath Kovind


Shri Ram Nath Kovind was elected as the 14th President of India on 20 July 2017. Chief Justice of Supreme Court J. s. Khehar got him sworn in as the President of India on 25 July 2017. He has decorated the post of Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh and Governor of Bihar state. He is a lawyer by profession, due to which he has good knowledge of the constitution. Life Introduction

Shri Ramnath Kovind ji was born in a small village Paraunkh under Derapur tehsil of Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh state. His father’s name was Maiku Lal and mother’s name was Kalavati. It belongs to the (Koli) caste included in the Scheduled Castes of Uttar Pradesh. He is an important Dalit leader. His early education was completed in the council primary and pre-secondary school of village Khanpur under Sandalpur block. For further studies, he was admitted to BNSD Intermediate College, Kanpur Nagar. From here he passed the intermediate examination. To get higher education, he got admission in Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, from where he passed the examination of B.Com and LLB. He was married to Savita Kovind on 30 May 1974 and has a son Prashant and a daughter Swati.

Habitat

Shri Ramnath Kovind ji’s residence is in Paraunkh village in Derapur tehsil of Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh state. He was born in this village and had his early education in the council school of Sandalpur block.


Career of Ramnath Kovind

Ramnath Kovind made his career in advocacy after obtaining LLB degree and worked as a qualified lawyer. His career in various fields is as follows –


Career in Advocacy

Kovind ji practiced law in the Delhi High Court, here he worked as a lawyer for the central government. His tenure in the Delhi High Court was from 1977 to 1979. From 1980 to 1993, he also practiced in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Standing Council of the Central Government.


As An MP

In April 1994, he was appointed as a Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh. On the basis of his superior efficiency, he got the post of Rajya Sabha MP for two consecutive terms. In this way, his tenure in Rajya Sabha lasted for 12 years i.e. till the year 2006.


Social Service

Ramnath Kovind was also the National President of BJP Dalit Morcha and President of All India Koli Samaj. In 1986, he was also the General Secretary of the Legal Aid Bureau of Depressed Classes.


Donated the House as a Procession

Ramnath Kovind is the youngest of three brothers. Kovid has donated his ancestral house in Paraukh village for the procession. The elder brother is Pyarelal. One brother Shivbalak Ram has passed away.


Life Patron of the Leprosy Association

He is also a lifelong patron of the Divya Prem Seva Mission, an organization dedicated to the service of leprosy patients, located on the banks of the Ganges in Haridwar. During his stay as a lawyer, Kovind fought many legal battles for the poor Dalits for free.

Ramnath Kovind also served as a member of the Board of Management in Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, along with worked as a member of the Board of Management of the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata. He represented India in the United Nations General Assembly in October 2002.


Social Work

Ramnath Kovind ji did many works for the people of the backward class of the society, which are as follows –


  • He started working for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities, Women from her college days. Due to his public service from his student life, he had made a different identity.

  • Took many big steps for the expansion of education in the society. While working as a Rajya Sabha MP for his 12 years, he gave special importance to educating the people of the backward classes.

  • During advocacy, many free facilities available legally for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and women were provided, due to these efforts, an organization like ‘Free Legal Aid Society’ came into existence in Delhi.

  • He donated his ancestral house of Kanpur to his villagers, which is now used as a procession house.

  • In view of his deep penetration among the Dalit community, Shri Rajnath Singh took his help for campaigning in the Dalit areas of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2012 Uttar Pradesh elections.
