Political Guru of Mahatma Gandhi

Gopal Krishna Gokhale was the political guru of Mahatma Gandhi. He had very good experience in politics, he used to think deeply about everything. It was he who gave correct knowledge to Mahatma Gandhi about the politics of India.


  • Gopal Krishna Gokhale ji was born on 9 May 1866 at a place called Kohat in the state of Maharashtra, his father Krishna Rao was a clerk by profession.
  • Gopal Krishna Gokhale ji was very good in studies, seeing his good marks, the government used to provide him a scholarship of 20 rupees.
  • He wanted to expand Indian education, so he founded the Servants of India Society.


Spiritual Guru of Mahatma Gandhi

Shrimad Rajchandra (Ramchandra) ji had a very deep influence on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji considered Shrimad Rajchandra as the main reason for the change in his life.

Shrimad Rajchandra was a Jain poet, philosopher, scholar and reformer. He was born at a place called Morbi in the state of Gujarat. At the age of seven, he claimed that he remembered the things of his previous birth. He performed the ‘Memory Retention and Recollection Test’, which made him very famous. He wrote a book called ‘Atma Siddhi’ which was based on the philosophical poem, which became very famous.

Gandhi’s family

Gandhiji was the youngest in his family. He had two elder brothers Laxmidas and Krishnadas and one sister, Raliyat. Gandhiji had 4 sons, whose names are as follows-


  • Harilal Gandhi
  • Manilal Gandhi
  • Ramdas Gandhi
  • Devdas Gandhi

These four sons had 13 grandchildren.


Today 154 descendants of Gandhiji are living in 6 countries.


Among them, 12 doctors, 12 professors, 5 engineers, 4 lawyers, 3 journalists, 2 IAS, 1 scientist, 1 chartered accountant, 5 are working in good positions in private companies, as well as 4 PhD holders in this family.
